What Q4 2026 Means for B2B Pipeline Planning
Marketing Strategy · Published 2026-10-01

Q4 2026 started this morning, a Thursday. The quarter has 66 weekdays by our own count. Four US federal holidays fall inside it: Columbus Day (October 12), Veterans Day (November 11), Thanksgiving (November 26) and Christmas Day (December 25), per the federal holiday schedule from the US Office of Personnel Management. That schedule applies to federal employees, and private companies choose their own. A team that takes all four has 62 working days. A team that works through Columbus Day and Veterans Day has 64. January 1, 2027 is a Friday and also a federal holiday, so the planning window for next year ends earlier than the calendar suggests.
This post covers what is dated and checkable this quarter: where budgets stand, two large events that will shape inbound and follow-up, API deadlines on three ad platforms that can break reporting, and one EU rule that touches teams using generative AI. Each date below links to the source that states it.
Budgets for 2027 are being set against a flat baseline
The most recent hard data on marketing budgets comes from Gartner’s 2026 CMO Spend Survey, released on May 11, 2026. Marketing budgets rose to 7.8% of company revenue in 2026 from 7.7% in 2025. Gartner reports that 56% of CMOs say their organization lacks the budget to deliver its 2026 strategy, and 54% report insufficient resources. On average, 15.3% of marketing budgets go to AI initiatives.
One limit on that data matters for anyone reading it against their own plan. The survey ran from January through March 2026 and covered 401 marketing leaders in North America, the UK and Europe, with the vast majority at companies above $1 billion in annual revenue. A mid-market budget may behave differently, and Gartner does not say otherwise.
The practical reading for Q4 is narrow. If the budget baseline is flat, a 2027 request has to name what it replaces. Two of our existing posts cover that conversation from different ends. How to build the internal case for an intent data budget walks through justifying one line item to finance, and how to measure B2B campaign ROI beyond MQLs covers the pipeline numbers that line item will be judged on.
Two events set the quarter’s follow-up calendar
Gartner IT Symposium/Xpo runs October 19 to 22 in Orlando. Gartner’s event page describes it as a gathering of CIOs and IT executives and cites 7,000+ CIOs and IT executives in attendance and 180+ solution providers. AWS re:Invent runs November 30 to December 4 in Las Vegas, with more than 2,200 sessions listed on the event site.
If your buyers are IT leaders, both events create follow-up work, and the timing differs sharply. Symposium ends October 22, which leaves about five weeks before Thanksgiving on November 26. re:Invent ends December 4, so any nurture sequence for contacts from that event runs straight into December 25 and the January 1 holiday. Sequences built for the second event need fewer touches, started the week it closes.
Event pipeline planning has its own rules, and our post on what event pipeline planning looks like 90 days out applies in reverse here: the 90-day window for a January or February event opens this quarter. The event-based lead generation service page describes how we run that work.
Platform API deadlines can break your reporting
These affect teams that pull ad data through the platforms’ APIs, usually via a reporting connector, a bid tool or a custom script. Teams that work only inside the platform interfaces are not directly affected, but whoever owns your connectors should confirm that.
- Google Ads API v22 sunsets on October 7, 2026. Google’s developer blog states that from that date “all v22 API requests will begin to fail.”
- LinkedIn Marketing API version 202510 sunsets on October 15, 2026, and version 202511 on November 16, 2026. LinkedIn’s Marketing API change log lists both dates and recommends migrating to the latest versioned API.
- Microsoft Advertising new API features are REST only from October 1, 2026, which is today. The legacy SOAP API is fully deprecated on January 31, 2027, per Microsoft’s announcement. Microsoft says existing SOAP integrations keep running during the migration window.
That is three platforms and five dates: October 1, October 7, October 15, November 16 and January 31, 2027. The Google and LinkedIn dates are the urgent ones, because requests fail or versions stop working on those days. A dashboard that goes blank in the first half of October leaves the team without spend and lead data in the middle of budget season, when someone is asking for exactly those figures. Ask whoever maintains your connectors one question this week: which API version is each integration calling today.
One EU deadline for teams using generative AI
The EU’s Digital Omnibus on AI entered into force on July 27, 2026, according to the European Commission. The Commission’s AI Act Service Desk timeline lists the AI Act’s transparency rules (Article 50) as applying from August 2, 2026. It also lists December 2, 2026 as the transitional deadline for certain providers of AI systems, including general-purpose AI systems, that generate synthetic content and were already on the market before August 2, 2026, to comply with Article 50(2).
Article 50(2) is a provider obligation, so it falls mainly on the vendors of the tools, not on the marketers using them. A marketing team that produces AI-generated images, audio or copy for EU audiences still has a reasonable question for its vendors before December 2: how do the tools label their output. Whether the rule applies to a specific tool or use is a question for your legal counsel, and this post does not answer it.
A dated checklist for the quarter
- By October 7. Inventory every Google Ads API connection and confirm none calls v22.
- By October 15. Confirm no LinkedIn integration uses Marketing API version 202510. Plan the move off 202511 before November 16.
- By October 22. Finish the follow-up sequence for any Gartner Symposium contacts you collect (booth, meetings or sponsorship) while about five weeks remain before Thanksgiving. Post-event lead nurturing sets out what the sequence should contain.
- By mid-November. Write the 2027 plan so each line item states the pipeline it owns and the line it replaces. Thanksgiving week has only three working days before the holiday (November 23 to 25), so finish the draft before it starts.
- By November 30. Decide whether the team is following up re:Invent contacts and, if so, cap the sequence at what fits before December 25.
- Before December 2. Ask each generative AI vendor how it handles Article 50(2) labelling for EU-facing output.
- Before January 31, 2027. Confirm any Microsoft Advertising SOAP integration has a REST migration date.
If the planning questions above sit with your team and the capacity does not, talk to the team about where outside help fits into the rest of the quarter.
